The cover painting, titled "Moon" by Zen master Gesshu Soko (1618-1696), is a large, single-character calligraphy for Moon. The autumn moon is a symbol of radiance but it can be the cause of delusion.  The back calligraphy reads "Not know bright moon autumn", by extension implying that enlightenment need not be conscious of itself.
